That’s the JTA’s question. Israel and Israel’s advocates have been pushing that line for a while, but Israel’s reputation among American liberals doesn’t seem to be getting any better over the past couple of years. It would appear that the Palestinian issue is more important to liberals overall than gay rights, which is pretty consistent with how American liberals view most large foreign-policy issues.
Think about it: how much better is Iowa’s reputation these days? You don’t see people donating money to plant trees there. And their main offenses to liberal views are simple things like corn subsidies and a weird caucus system.
