  • Winona Ryder’s Insomnia tied to Jewishness

    by Rebecca Honig Friedman

Winona Ryder told Empire Magazine in an interview in this month’s issue that she suffers from insomnia and that when she consulted a doctor about the problem he asked if she was of Russian Jewish descent:

He told me that something like 90 percent of insomniacs he treats are of Russian Jewish descent. He basically said, “You people have been freaked out for so long, it’s no wonder you can’t sleep!”

Ryder, born Winona Horowitz, is indeed of Russian Jewish descent, lost family members in the Holocaust, and, she told Empire, when she does sleep she has a recurring dream of being in a concentration camp.

    2. Now that is a SERIOUSLY interesting factoid, although I wish that more GOOD qualities were attributed to being Jewish.

    3. Interesting, but I suffer from insomnia ocassionally and I’m not Jewish ( as far as I’m concern). :)
