This week on Up Close, the good and the bad of aging.
First, though many of us fear the aging process, our golden years can actually be the best ones. So argue Mindy Greenstein and her co-author, Jamie Holland, in Lighter As We Go: Virtues, Character Strengths, and Aging. Greenstein talks with Steven I. Weiss about why the older we get, the more we can enjoy life.
But that’s not to say aging doesn’t come with real problems, especially when it comes to our health, and Alzheimer’s is one of the more devastating age-related illnesses. Former broadcast journalist Meryl Comer relates her decades-long struggle to care for her husband in Slow Dancing with a Stranger: Lost and Found in the Age of Alzheimer’s. She discusses her journey and offers advice for others in how to prepare themselves for the pitfalls of aging.
